Comment worthy of mention:  I received this response to my November Newsletter; one of the reasons I LOVE MY JOB:
"Leslie, Thanks for maintaining the welcoming vibe at the Yoga Center. I go to several different studios around town, but the Yoga Center has always felt like my "home studio" (maybe its the carpet). Each of the yoga teachers with whom I've worked (Jacqueline, Jen, Leslie, Isabelle and names from past days Sam, Heidi, Cindy, & Lynn) have offered valuable insights and have helped me to progress slowly, but surely in my practice and understanding of yoga. I'm glad to have such a resource in my own backyard." RL

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Natalie Mercado is on a short leave of absence, studying in India for the next few weeks.  She is blogging about her experiences -- if you want to learn more about Natalie, India, Yoga, and/or Kalari, check out her blog:  www.mindfulandembodied.blogspot.com.  I am told this link is not working right now; I used it 2 days ago and it did work -- so, all we can do is keep trying.  I have sent a message to Natalie.

THOUGHTS FROM JANUARY
Two years ago, as I completed a Level II Teacher Training with Martin & Jordan Kirk, I admitted to myself and to all around me that I wanted to be a Certified Anusara Yoga Instructor.  At that time, I was (and still am) an Anusara-Inspired Instructor.  I have hundreds of hours of training, 6 years of experience teaching, and have practiced yoga for over 12 years.  Why at the age of 58 would I make such a declaration?  And, why at the age of 60, is it still so important to me?

My feeling about teaching yoga is that I want to be the best I can be.  I want to be able to help people become familiar with their bodies, feel better physically and emotionally, and empower them as yoga students and practitioners.  Lofty goals, and achievable.

In late December, I submitted my application for Certification.  Yesterday, I received the go-ahead from Anusara (I was accepted!).  What does this mean?  More work.  As in, continued study, a written exam extolled to take many hours to complete, and at least one video that meets all the requirements of a Certified instructor (maybe 2 or 3, hopefully not any more than that).  It may take the whole year, it may take longer.  Why, oh why, am I setting myself on this course?  Because I want to.   I know there will be ups and downs during the year, but I'm ready -- you may not hear about them, but then you don't want to.

What you do want is to know that whoever is teaching you yoga is doing so because it makes their heart sing - as mine does.

Namaste'

Feedback about The Yoga Center from a few of YOU:
I didn't think Yoga was something I could do and though I need lots of props sometimes, I find I can do it and it is helping me.  I will be taking more sessions in the future.  Thank you for a very good experience! Suzan
And:
Of all the yoga classes that I have taken, the classes and instructors at your studio have by far been the best.  Cheryl.
And:
Simply yoga; no egos.  Mary
And:
I loved the classes - I have been to Jacqueline's class about 3 times and Sam's meditation class twice.  I would refer any old fogey like me - I haven't tried the more energetic classes yet, but am confident they would be as good.  I felt welcomed as a lost beginner and love the feeling that it is ok just to be where I am at.   When I spoke to you before I started, I also felt welcomed.  Susan

Several of the classes at The Yoga Center are influenced by Anusara Yoga®.  What is it?
Anusara (a-nu-sar-a) is a Sanskrit word that means “flowing with Grace”, “going with the flow”, “following your heart”.   Founded by John Friend in 1997, (www.anusara.com) Anusara Yoga is a powerful hatha yoga system that celebrates a Tantric philosophy of intrinsic Goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment™. Anusara Yoga's remarkable popularity is due in large part to its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart", that looks for the good in all people and all things. This, combined with precise therapeutic alignment principles, has made Anusara Yoga is one of the fastest growing yoga styles in the world.
As a community, Anusara Yoga is well networked and organized, yet there is a strong emphasis on creative freedom and individuality. Anusara Yoga is held together by everyone's implicit alliance to the spiritual principles of Anusara Yoga philosophy such as: celebrating beauty in all its diversity, truthfulness, and honoring the creative freedom of the Divine in all beings. Individual creativity and investigation are always encouraged within the bounds of basic alignment principles and philosophic precepts of Anusara Yoga. Anusara Yoga grows with harmony and integrity through the combined vision of our Anusara Yoga teachers to unveil the innate goodness, worthiness, and supreme nature of each student and every being.
